July 16 - Powered by the Wind
Tall Ships
Under full sail on Lake Superior, the Tall Ship Niagara glides past Duluth’s Canal Park, her canvas catching the steady lake breeze. Just offshore, she draws the attention of onlookers gathered along the pier, a striking reminder of another era brought briefly into the present.
The Niagara was one of several tall ships visiting Duluth during the festival—echoes of a time when vessels like hers were essential to commerce and exploration. Long before modern engines, it was the wind alone that powered these ships, carrying goods, people, and stories across vast waters.
In Duluth-Superior’s early days, ships like this were a common sight, filling the harbor and shaping the region’s identity. Today, their presence stirs something deeper—a connection to history, craftsmanship, and the quiet power of the natural world.
“Sing unto the LORD a new song… ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein.” — Isaiah 42:10
Like the unseen wind that fills these sails, God’s Spirit moves quietly but powerfully in our lives. When we turn to His Word, we raise our sails to catch His direction.
Are your sails set today?
