July 17 - The Sky Speaks
Lightning
A summer storm moves across Caribou Lake, splitting the night with a jagged burst of light. For an instant, the shoreline, water, and sky are revealed in brilliant detail—then darkness returns.
Lightning is one of nature’s most powerful displays. In mid-July, warm, moisture-filled air builds towering storm clouds that carry immense electrical charge. When that energy is released, it illuminates the landscape with startling intensity, reminding us how quickly calm can give way to power.
This storm announced itself clearly. Weather alerts sounded, thunder rolled across the lake, and flashes of lightning lit the sky in rapid succession. Soon after, steady rain followed, and the air settled as the storm moved east.
Something is humbling in watching a storm like this. It reminds us that even on the warmest, quietest nights, a greater power is at work—ordering the skies and shaping the rhythms of the earth.
“It is He who made the earth by His power…
He makes lightning for the rain
And brings out the wind from His storehouses.” — Jeremiah 10:12–13
Storms in life are not without purpose. They draw our attention upward—reminding us who holds all things together.
