Tall Ships
The schooner Lynx passes the Duluth North Pier Lighthouse during the 2013 Tall Ships Festival, her white sails glowing against the deep blue waters of Lake Superior. Watching a tall ship glide silently across the harbor stirs the imagination and connects us to the courage and determination of those who sailed these waters generations ago. These vessels remind us of a time when people depended on the wind, the weather, and their skill to guide them safely home.
It is fascinating to remember that even in biblical times, ships like these were vital for commerce and transportation. We have much to be thankful for, including the wisdom and craftsmanship God gave mankind to harness the wind and waters for exploration, trade, and discovery — all with a beauty uniquely their own.
